Sonic the Hedgehog is synonymous with speed, and now he’s teaming up with one of the fastest names in real-world racing—McLaren. Sega has officially announced a new crossover between Sonic and the UK-based McLaren Racing team, bringing Sonic’s signature style to the world of Formula 1.
It’s a great time to be a Sonic fan. Between recent hits like Sonic Frontiers and Sonic X Shadow Generations, and the ongoing success of the live-action movie series, the Blue Blur is enjoying a major resurgence. That momentum continues later this year with the release of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, a new kart racer that has players speeding through wild tracks and dimensional portals in a battle for first place.
Sonic’s no stranger to crossovers either. CrossWorlds will feature post-launch DLC characters from franchises like Like a Dragon, Minecraft, and even SpongeBob SquarePants. Beyond gaming, the IDW/DC Comics crossover has Sonic’s crew teaming up with the Justice League—with Shadow the Hedgehog donning Batman’s cowl in one standout moment.
Now, Sonic is stepping into the real world. McLaren revealed on its official Twitter (via VGC) that it’s partnering with Sega for a year-long collaboration celebrating Sonic’s 35th anniversary and McLaren’s 1,000th Grand Prix. Titled “Racing Around the World,” the campaign is set to blend high-octane racing with the energy of one of gaming’s most iconic mascots.
