Disney’s long-anticipated Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is finally taking shape, with producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirming that some familiar faces will be back on deck.
Since Dead Men Tell No Tales hit theaters in 2017, the future of the franchise has remained uncertain — slowed by lukewarm fan response and legal controversies surrounding Johnny Depp, the iconic face of Captain Jack Sparrow.
But momentum is building once more, with the next installment set to blend new characters with returning favorites. Exactly who will return remains a mystery, but the winds are finally shifting for the beloved pirate saga.

Earlier this month on the British talk show This Morning, Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom shared his interest in returning to the high seas as Will Turner — the blacksmith-turned-pirate heartthrob who sailed off with Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) in 2007’s At World’s End.
Bloom and Knightley briefly reprised their roles a decade later in Dead Men Tell No Tales’ post-credits scene, a moment that hinted at more to come. But as time passed without follow-up, many fans began to lose hope that the storyline would ever be continued.
“I don’t know — I can’t say anything for sure because I really don’t know,” Bloom said in the interview, via Game Rant. “But I’m definitely available. I think they’re trying to figure out what it’s going to look like. Personally, I think it’d be amazing to get the band back together. That’d be great. But there are always different ideas floating around, so we’ll see what happens.”
Over the years, Disney has explored a wide variety of ideas for future Pirates films — from reboots and spin-offs to full sequels featuring both legacy characters and new faces. But one of the biggest question marks has always been the status of Johnny Depp.
Depp’s relationship with Disney was severed following legal controversies surrounding his divorce from actress Amber Heard. In 2018, he lost a libel case against a UK newspaper, and in 2022, he won a defamation case against Heard in the U.S., which he claimed led to his removal from the franchise. While Depp once stated he had no intention of returning, Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer has since voiced hope that he might reconsider.
Notably, the 2023 Pirates of the Caribbean collaboration in Fortnite focused on legacy characters like Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann, and Captain Barbossa — a subtle sign that nostalgia still drives much of the franchise’s appeal.
Now, in a new interview with Screen Rant, Bruckheimer has confirmed that some familiar faces will return in Pirates of the Caribbean 6, though the film will feature a “new take” on the series.
When asked whether that meant a completely fresh cast, Bruckheimer teased: “Well, not all new actors. We’ll have some back… I’m not going to tell you which ones — you’ll have to guess.”
As of now, Disney has yet to officially announce Pirates of the Caribbean 6 or give it a release date — but the winds seem to finally be shifting for this long-dormant franchise.
